The most common dental procedure in the UK, fillings are used to treat cavities and dental decay, restoring structure and appearance to affected teeth.
While teeth are very durable, they are vulnerable to decay. Sugary foods, especially fizzy drinks, attract bacteria which in turn produces acid. This attacks the hard enamel, creating cavities if plaque deposits aren’t cleaned away. Dental decay is a very common issue and we look for any signs of decay during your routine dental examination.
If you have a cavity, we treat it through removing the infected part of the tooth and rebuild the tooth using a filling.
Metal fillings are the most common type of filling used in the UK. The special metal compound can be easily shaped to replicate the structure of the tooth, providing crucial support to the tooth which has been treated. Amalgam fillings have been used over a hundred years and are still used in the dental surgery. Durable and reliable, amalgam fillings can last for many years.
Using dental composite, we can rebuild decayed and treated teeth back to their former glory. Composite is a special resin that can be colour-matched to your teeth. As we build the composite directly to the tooth, there’s no need to remove any of the tooth to accommodate the filling. We tend to use composite fillings more often than amalgam as they are much more discreet and look just like natural teeth.
